Revisiting An Old Favorite

Updated: Sep 6, 2025

My game of choice in the last few days: Dead Rising

Dead Rising was one of the first Xbox 360 games back in 2006, almost a year after the 360’s launch, and it’s legacy continues to this day, with not so favorable sequels, but sequels nonetheless. I’ve played them and they were enjoyable, they all call back to the first one that laid the groundworks. I’ve noticed the game design of Dead Rising 1 might have been difficult to replicate in different ways the more I play it. Fixing mistakes from a previous game is one thing, but to also be fresh and new, which really sets the Dead Rising sequels apart from each other, despite some similarities, is an entirely different ballgame.

Anyway, Capcom released a PC version of Dead Rising 1 in 2016 on Steam, celebrating 10 years of the franchise, with the usual “greatest hits” price. It runs a lot better, but don’t expect any bugs to be fixed. The original Dead Rising has been masterfully ported to the PC, almost like it was originally made for it. Load times are instantaneous, and the framerate can be set to 60. All in all, it’s a great port of an early 360 title to start up and play on any standard computer. Now to actually appreciate it despite all the bad things about it is another story.

I’ve been playing through the main story with whatever time I have available to me (things have been extremely busy), trying to find a good middle ground between life necessities, errands I need to do and possibly live streaming these games. I thought I’d be able to stream last Monday, but it’s already Wednesday, and I think I might be able to squeeze in some hours before bed. If not, Thursday is already nearing the end of the week, so if I do any then, at least I can say I did what I wanted to do.
